Security and Safety in Parking Lots

Security measures should be taken at all different types of businesses, but different businesses require unique and customizable systems. For example, a popular museum needs high-level security equipment with heat sensors and trip wires (National Treasure, anyone?), whereas a small clothing boutique might only need video cameras and a burglar alarm. When you think of business security, though, a parking lot probably is not the first place that comes to mind. But, I’m here to tell you that parking lots need security just as much (if not more) than lots of other spaces. If you don’t believe me, I’ll give you a few reasons:

Overall Safety

Walking alone in parking lots makes you a target. Whether you’re holding shopping bags, a wallet, or just your car keys, you are more susceptible to robbery. Security equipment will deter thieves from targeting people that are walking to their cars because they know that they are being watched and recorded

Car Theft

If someone is looking for a car to steal, chances are that they will go to a place with tons of cars to choose from: a parking lot or used car lot. Security equipment, once again, will make someone think twice about stealing a car whilst on camera. It can also capture the license plate numbers of potential thieves so that the local law enforcement can be notified.

Vandalism

Security cameras will prevent trespassers from going anywhere near someone else’s property. If someone is planning on vandalizing your store but they see cameras in the parking lot, they’ll know that the business is equipped with alarm systems and more security equipment and they will stay away.

If I haven’t convinced you that all parking lots should have security systems by now, then just google “parking lot crimes” and you will see what I mean. Once you’re done being convinced, then come back and read the rest of this blog, because now I’m  going to show you the different options for securing your parking lot. All parking lots are different, therefore they need unique security solutions- just as different businesses need different security systems, as I mentioned before.

Large & Open Parking Lots

Many parking lots are big, open, and have very poor lighting. Thermal security cameras are ideal for these. Thermal cameras require little to no lighting at night, but can still pick up images using heat signatures. You can clearly see people, so it is easy to tell if there is a potential threat in the lot. One of the best features this camera has is its’ clear picture. No matter what kind of weather or lighting there is, this camera will be able to pick up great images, protecting you and your customers around the clock.

Temporary & Mobile Security

A mobile surveillance trailer is ideal for temporary construction lots or lots that need surveillance in many spots at different times. There are a plethora of cameras to choose from that can be temporary and/or mobile. Mini cameras are available, which is often the most effective, easiest, and cheapest option. There are also solar-powered security cameras, which are cost effective but can be harder to move.

The options are virtually endless when it comes to securing your business and its surrounding area. You can’t go wrong with most security systems, but the most important part is to make sure that you have some type of security in the first place. Not having a surveillance system makes you, your employees, and your customers a target to all kinds of crime. With that, I encourage you to start researching which type of security is best for you, because safety always comes first.
